I dunno, going by the lack of action and little support, I'd say this is another disappointing death of a great script.

I've learned my lesson tho, I'm going to be forced to stick with open-ended popular scripts from now on.

I really don't want to go with Wordpress, I wasn't impressed with it much. But meh.

The first cutenews died. Now this one seems to be dead or dying.

Well that's a very pessimistic viewpoint of this project :(

I'm sorry Scott.

Maybe I was harsh. But it's been hard getting support here lately. FIDD seems to respond lately that he's too busy to do certain things, if he even responds at all. The only support I get is from other users when they show up and the forums here seem very non-active when I come here.

Bottom line, I enjoy cutenews. I've been using it literally for years and I was highly excited to see that it moved here to cutenewsru. It got 100x better than I ever imagined. Compared to wordpress and other news systems I've tried it's literally light years ahead.

I guess I don't know what's going on in you developers lives, but I'd like to see cutenews be up there with wordpress and it's just not. The last update was over a year ago. The little tweaks put here should be implemented into some updates.

I've read a post, I think from you that says that you guys aren't even focused on working on "Strawberry"...

My bad, I tend to get a little passionate when I write. But I really enjoy cutenews and would like to stick with it. But I don't see it going in a positive direction. I hope it doesn't go out the way the original version did.

Hell, if cutenews offered the same mainstream features that are popular, I'd donate,

1. A working tag system or tag cloud. Not this confusing xfield stuff, I can't even figure it out.

2. Updated spam bot protection, like "what is the third word in this sentence" type of questions. Not that captcha crap, I've used captcha dozens of times on other scripts and it doesn't work. The bots can read them somehow. Thank god for the spam filter, that actually does work.

3. Blog rolls, to help affiliation.

4. http://www.zemanta.com/ intergration. They are asking for news systems to join.

5. Same with tag clouds, a working related post function. Again, not the xfield thing. I don't know how to work it.

6. Better translation to English and other languages. Still a bunch of Russian text in the help files. Fine if you want this only for Russians.

7. The last major version was in what? 2005?

I know you guys are still working on the script all the time, I'm not saying you're doing nothing. But it seems the passion is gone.

Well, it's hard to find passionate people that know php and like to support the forum and the script.

Just look at you - you made 15 posts in one year and only one of them was a supporting post. 95% of the users around here are like you, but you are the first who complains about the inactivity.

I guess I don't know what's going on in you developers lives, but I'd like to see cutenews be up there with wordpress and it's just not. The last update was over a year ago. The little tweaks put here should be implemented into some updates.

There's no developer around here anymore. I'm not a developer. I just wrote some plugins and give support as often as I can.

Btw, the last update was 4 weeks ago. I'm not releasing a new version because I'm not the developer - I just update the current version now and then.

Well, I'm not sure how else I can be supportive other than using the script faithfully... which I have for years. I've also done my best to spread the word about cutenews. This is a support forum, so I tend to only come here when I need support. :?

I've tried, pretty hard at times to learn PHP just so I can help with things like this. It's just not going to work, self-taught. Too complicated for me.

But, I'm surely not trying to offend anyone, which it seems I have twice now. My comments are simply longing to see cutenews ranked higher than these popular news/blogs which it very well should be. Hopefully, it can be understood that I'm not "complaining", just discouraged to see Cutenews not getting the attention it deserves. I fully appreciate all the work you guys put in.

If there's no more developers around, then why not just make your own version of this? Start fresh, like they did at first.

I get what you're saying and you're absolutely right. I blame it partly on the russian/english barrier lol

Im a little bit confused, have this script been updated lately? Because in the post it says:

"Last edited by FI-DD on Fri Sep 12, 2008 1:03 pm; edited 31 times in total"

But the version number isn't changed... What changes have been made?

what fi-dd means and what we've all come used to knowing is that when changes need made to the main cutenews.ru download, fi-dd fixes up the script and reuploads it as the latest most stable version of a script that a russian man no longer supports. that doesn't mean the script is no good or has no future value.

fi-dd and others have always fixed and worked on bugs in the script and made sure the download is as stable as it can be.

all the active members here make sure that the script retains it's current awesome value and always try to improve it anytime we can.

to make a long story short, download the latest version of the script and let us know if you have any hiccups and need any help :)

If alot of work has gone into the script since 2.5.4 was released then why not give it a new version number maybe 2.6 that way people who use it will know bus and alerations have been made. Just a thought

I agree aswell. Though it is a bit wrong to increment the current version without the developer being involved (but I guess the community is the real developer now though) 8)

Indeed, many changes have been made, alot of improvement, & I guess there could be made a pack with some new useful addons which were produced in the way.

Maybe the problem is, that cutenews 2.6 is already available. It's called strawberry 1.0.

Sadly there's not much English information about that one, while we have a pile of info. for CNRU.
