error before installation!? at inc/functions.inc.php

i got an error when i open the index.php in my localhost: http://localhost/cutie/index.php

i'm using the latest version of XAMPP for mac. any idea why this is happening? i can't open the install/install.php either! i just can't start off with anything.. here's the error:

Hmm it might be something with your server, my knowledge is not
enough for that, but here are couple of stuff to check:

+ PHP version 4.1.0 or higher
+ You've got all the files (nothing's missing)
+ CHMOD 777 the folders cache/ and example/ and data/ and all files and folders in the data/ folder
+ CHMOD 644 the index.php
+ Also try maybe accessing it from another browser or another pc

Remember for the first installation you need to enter cnru-dircetory/index.php

+ PHP version is 5.30
+ nothing's missing for sure.
+ CHMOD all files/folders to 777 and so is index.php
+ tried index.php with 644 and 777 but doesn't work
+ tried in safari and firefox and got the same error.

i wonder if cutenewsRU is supported in php v5.30

It shouldn't be a problem, I have php v5 too on the server my site is hosted on
Hmm might be something wrong with the xampp installation, you should try
to reinstall it or maybe try another installation? or change to wamp?
Maybe this version of xampp isn't 100% suitable for your pc or so

anyways downloading the mac version of mamp now. hope it works. thanx for the replies.

Does any other CMSes work on your home install? There might be some problems with the PHP configuration.
